East Texas Comic Con

In mid-July, I had the opportunity to visit a fairly new comic convention near my hometown of Kilgore, Texas. East Texas Comic Con started 3 years ago in Longview, TX, and is now a staple for the community. I had a chance to meet with some vendors and organizers of the con who happily shared that they plan to bring the con to Tyler, TX.
The Longview Exhibit Halls were filled with vendors, artists, cosplayers, and special guests who have played a tremendous role in popular culture, from Power Rangers (Yellow Ranger, Karan Ashley) to the voice actor of Yosemite Sam. From the looks of the con, I expect that next year's event will need more space to accommodate the growing fandom of con-goers.
Many of the vendors who attended are small business owners who traveled far to make the event. They were pleased with the outcome and how fast items were disappearing from their booths. Small businesses that participate in cons are able to meet their target audience, which includes fans of their work as seen on social media and collectors of items, whether it's cards, games, trinkets, artwork, and much more. There were also food trucks and beverage vendors who didn't disappoint with their eclectic variety of delicious treats.
We had a chance to meet up with some attendees who had some mobility issues and they informed us that the con was totally accessible to their needs. This was one of the attendees first con and our guest host, C Greasy.
On a scale of 1 to 10, we happily rate the con an 8. The overall experience met our expectations, the people there had a great time, the cosplays were amazing, and most importantly, it was accessible for all.
