On Saturday, September 21st, Disability Comic Con joined the vibrant community at the Mini Comic Con at Eureka Heights. The event, a celebration of pop culture, featured over 30 vendors showcasing their artistry, books, and games. It was a joy to meet these talented individuals who share a passion for creativity. The event, open to all ages and free to the public, was a testament to the diverse and inclusive nature of the pop culture community. Among the many vendors were voice actors from Charlie Brown (Melanie Kohn), Roderick Thornton a storyboard artist, Houston Harley Quinn's, popular streamers like Cornbread, representatives from locally owned comic book stores, and fantasy novel authors.
While attending the well-attended event, we enjoyed various craft beers, food trucks, and pinball machines, looked through comics, talked with vendors, and participated in a cosplay competition. I was supposed to be there briefly but enjoyed meeting some of the event coordinators, Ginger Simon and Sonia Guimbellot from International Focus Magazine. I met Sonia in the parking lot and asked for information about entry to the venue, and that's when she asked if I was going to be in the cosplay contest. I wasn't aware of the contest, but Sonia convinced me to stay, and I am happy that she did.
I attended the mini-con as a Cheetah; however, most attendees thought I was a Cheetara, but I wasn't going to correct them. The competition was fierce as I went head-on with the Houston Harley Quinn, a lovely group of Harley Quinn cosplay enthusiasts. In the end, Cheetah won first place.
It was a shock for me because it was my second cosplay competition that I entered, and I had no idea there would be a contest. I cannot wait to attend another mini-con hosted by Eureka Heights. I encourage you to attend as well! It is great fun for the family and accessible to the public.
